Black Tourmaline: Crystals and Daily Affirmations

Black tourmaline to the rescue.

We live in a world, which, sadly, is filled with negativity.

And it can be hard to stay free from that negativity, especially if you are already carrying a lot of negativity inside you.

Like attracts like, after all.

Once you notice your negativity, however, or how the negativity in the world around you is affecting you, you can take measures to reverse your habits, your thoughts, and their effects.

Black tourmaline is a great way to support your shift toward the positive, and along with daily affirmations, you can begin to see tremendous changes in your life almost instantly.

Black Tourmaline

Black tourmaline is the most abundant of all the tourmaline crystals, composed of iron, sodium, silica, and boron, among other minerals.

They are also often laced with silver mica, creating a dazzling effect of light and dark.

Traditionally and across cultures around the globe, black tourmaline has been used for millennia in protection and healing rituals

Black tourmaline is known for repelling negative energy from the world around you, so it is most closely linked to the root chakra

The Root Chakra

Crown chakra

As author and healer Caroline Myss tells us in her book Anatomy of the Spirit, the root chakra, the first chakra, is an energetic representation of our connection to the earth, to our community, and to our tribe.

Located at the base of the spine or the soles of the feet, depending on if you are sitting or standing, the root chakra roots you into the earth and extends outward like an underground tree of life, energetically connecting you to all of life on earth.

Remember if you will that we humans, as with all of life, are made of the same material of which the earth is made.

We literally came from the earth.

All of life on earth was created in one flash, the Big Bang some call it, when stars and planets exploded and collided and the resulting energy was the earth and then our moon, which counts out our 13 lunar cycles of each year and controls our water systems.

Thus, everything that has been created on earth since that beginning, must also be made up of the same material as the earth.

We are one with the earth

So we are also one with everything on the earth.

When we talk about our energetic centers, then, the root chakra reminds us of this connection, and when we feel disconnected, we will feel it in our root chakra.

Common root chakra blocks can manifest as digestive problems, lower back pain, and left leg and foot pain.

Causes of root chakra blocks can include anything from being immersed in a negative world, having a fight with your family or community, feeling out of sync with your tribe or family, or having recently been through a personal crisis of faith or community, or feeling disconnected from nature or the earth, like our food systems or wildlife.

It will always be something related to the broader concepts of family, community, and the earth.

A root chakra blocked for a long time, like with any chakra block, will result in you feeling sluggish, lethargic, and listless, and your immune system will be affected, so you may get sick more often and stay sick for longer.

You may feel either hopeless or anxious.

How to Balance Your Root Chakra

The root chakra may be the most difficult chakra of all to balance because it involves not only someone or something else, but many someone’s and something’s.

The world does have negativity. We will not always agree with our tribe. And they will not always accept us.

How do you bring yourself back into balance when so much of it depends on others?

Well, like with most things witchy and spiritual, it is simple.

But it is not easy.

The answer: you must stop caring.

What????

That’s right.

You have to stop caring what other people think of you, stop caring about whether you are accepted, and stop caring about all the problems of the world or even your community.

You are one person and you have one primary superpower: love.

That’s it.

So, when I say stop caring, I don’t actually literally mean “don’t care about anything!”

That’s impossible anyway.

When you tell someone, or yourself, to stop thinking or feeling something, your natural inclination is to actually focus on it more.

When I say stop caring, I mean you have to get yourself to a place of loving indifference.

Of course you care. You are a feeling human being.

But you do not engage with what is happening, and you certainly do not invite the experience outside of yourself inside of yourself.

There’s a great Abraham Hicks quote about allowing others to have whatever experience they want to have.

That includes our family, our community, and the entire world.

We can simply choose to only invite in only what serves us.

Steps to Balance Your Root Chakra

Meditate

The first step to balancing your root chakra is to sit in meditation for at least 20 minutes every single day.

Before you do anything else with anyone else, sit in meditation.

During your meditation, imagine the light of the Universe, from your higher self, coming into your crown chakra, working its way down into your third eye chakra, your throat chakra, your heart chakra, your solar plexus chakra, your sacral chakra, and finally into your root chakra, lighting you up and clearing you out as it goes.

When you get the light into your root chakra, allow it to pool there and then extend outward, and up and down, throughout your whole body.

Then, allow the light to branch from you root into the earth beneath you, branching out in all directions around your home, connecting you to your family, around your community, connecting you there, and then across the world, connecting you there.

Picture yourself as but a small, yet extremely powerful, drop of a vast ocean that contains us all.

Then repeat this affirmation: I am one with all of life. I am both the same as everyone else and unique in my own self. And both are as they should be.

Connect with Nature

Another practice to clear your root chakra is to connect with nature on a daily basis. Spend some quality outside, at least 30 minutes every day, in nature.

You could go out into your yard and garden, walk in nature, or simply sit with your bare feet on the earth and rest. You could even hug a tree.

There are very real physical healing properties to be found in the process of earthing that greatly benefit you.

Over time, you will find that you feel better, calmer, more relaxed, and more connected to the earth from which you came.

When you connect with both the divine through your crown chakra and the earth through your root chakra, you realize that you are never alone, and your mood and spirit lift.

Find the Others

You may feel out of touch with your tribe, the people who raised you, the people you grew up with, your culture, your city, or even your country.

But there are always going to be others who feel like you do, who resonate energetically with you, who help you feel more at home, grounded, and welcomed.

Find them.

It may begin with books or podcasts, virtual meetings or chat rooms.

But ultimately, you will want to have in real life relationships with others who feel like you and recognize and honor your energy.

You will never be completely understood, so certainly don’t search for that. That is not your purpose here. But you will find many, many people who resonate.

Find them.

Have Compassion

A big part of “not caring” is to have compassion for those who are not like you, who reject you, who fight with you.

Dr. Rangan Chatterjee gives great advice on this process in his new book Happy Mind, Happy Life: the New Science of Mental Well-Being.

He shows how much healthier we can be when we focus on our own happiness. And he notes that, when it comes to others in our lives, we can practice loving compassion by reminding ourselves that if we were that person or those persons, in that exact situation, with that background and those experiences, we would be doing the exact same thing.

That is one of your positive affirmations for loving detachment and compassion.

Here’s another affirmation:

It comes back to Jesus Christ on the cross asking God to “forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Yes. He asked God for forgiveness for his torturers, his killers.

People who know better, do better. If they are not doing better, it is because they don’t know better.

And we must be able to have compassion and forgiveness in that case.

Black Tourmaline

As you speak your affirmations, as you implement your practices, and as you feel these shifts taking place in your life, carry black tourmaline with you, on your body.

When you lie in mediation, place this healing crystal at the base of your spine where you sit or at your feet where you lie or stand.

It’s job is to repel the negative energy you are working around, not resisting, but simply no longer allowing.

Gradually, you will feel positive changes, positive energy, a positive attitude, and immense self love fill you up and remain with you everywhere you go.

Happy manifesting!
