5 Best Stones For The Solar Plexus: The Fire Within

Every time I think of a balanced solar plexus chakra, I think of Alicia Keys belting out “this girl is on fire!” It’s true. The solar plexus chakra is the seat of all of your fire, your strength, your purpose, even your ego.

Without a balanced solar plexus chakra, the rest of your chakras will soon fall apart.

You need this chakra, and, truly, this part of your physical body, to be healthy more perhaps than any other area of your physical or metaphysical existence on a day to day manner?

For total wellness that leads to a strong and balanced third chakra, you’ll need a range of practices in place that include everything from daily cardio to the best stones for the solar plexus.

What Is the Solar Plexus?

The solar plexus is the area of your body just in front of your aorta at the front of your body, that stretches from just above your belly button to just below your rib cage.

In everyday language we call it your gut or the pit of your stomach.

It is an anatomical part of your body that resembles a braid of nerves that extend outward, giving off the appearance of the rays of the sun.

The solar plexus controls everything from your liver and kidney function to your adrenal glands.

Solar plexus pain can come in the form of anxiety, irritable bowels and poor digestion, nausea, and more. It is also like a chain of events; one pain leads to another and another. You do not want an out of whack solar plexus.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is located in the same spot as the physical solar plexus and is the seat of your power. It is, indeed, your fire. The Sanskrit name for the solar plexus is Manipura, which translates literally to “city of jewels.” It is your center.

Cue Alicia Keys.

When your solar plexus chakra, the third chakra up from the root, is out of alignment, or “blocked,” you feel anxious, depressed, and powerless, all of which lead to negative reactions that can take the form of shame, victimization of the self, and even aggression and overpowering others (it’s a form of overcompensation for feeling weak).

When your solar plexus chakra is clear, you feel empowered, confident, and prepared to take on the world. There is a very clear difference between the two, and a blocked third chakra feel immediately obvious.

The trouble, as I stated above, is that a blocked solar plexus chakra can throw all seven chakras out of line and your world into turmoil.

The Myth of the Alpha

Another thing that comes to mind when I discuss out of balance solar plexus chakra is the myth of the alpha male.

For decades, a narrative has been circulating about the alpha male.

This overly aggressive, bullying, vicious male image has come to the forefront. There are social media groups that encourage men like this as well as television shows and podcast. All hail the inflated ego of the alpha male.

The thing is, however, this iteration of the alpha male does not actually exist in nature, no matter how much these silly men might like to grunt and beat their meaty fists on their chests.

In nature, the alpha almost always comes as a pair, a male and a female, and they are almost always the mother and father of their pack, their children.

Signs of an Alpha Include a Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra

The true alpha, let’s take wolves as an example, ensures the pack always has enough to eat, leads from the front and protects the rear, defends the vulnerable, is nurturing, puts others before him or herself, and is humble enough to step down when too weak or old to act as the alpha.

The alpha is not vicious. The alpha is fierce.

There is a difference.

The true alpha has a balanced solar plexus chakra.

The trick is that an unbalanced solar plexus chakra can give off the appearance of an alpha, this overly aggressive, abusive, chest beater. It can fool an unwitting victim into believing he or she is the alpha, but really, it’s all ego.

The Ego and the Solar Plexus Chakra

Remember, we need our ego. While plenty of Buddhists and other spiritual practitioners will try to tell you that killing the ego is necessary for transcendence, let’s put the brakes on that conversation once and for all.

A while back I heard a great talk by Abraham Hicks, from whom the concept of Law of Attraction as we know it stems, and they laughed gently at the idea that we humans are constantly trying to escape our humanness.

“You came here to be human! You came here for the human experience. If only you knew how badly you wanted to be in these bodies before you got here, you would stop trying to get out of them!” They said.

And it’s true, if you think of it.

We need our human bodies. They give us pain, yes. But they also give us pleasure. We learn with our bodies. We expand our consciousness through our physical experiences.

And yes, we need our egos, which are seated in our solar plexus chakras. Our egos keep us aware of social situations. They help us to interact with others. They learn what is and is not appropriate in life in our culture and in our surroundings. They are a part of us, and we should not be so quick to try to assassinate the parts of us.

Like Elizabeth Gilbert says of fear, I say the same of ego. Tell your ego it can have a seat in the car. It just can’t drive. Learn to love your ego, to honor it, after all it is just trying to keep you safe, and then learn to keep it in check.

Practices for a Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra

The practices you put into place for a balanced Solar Plexus Chakra will also help keep your ego in check while helping you stay confident and empowered, a true alpha.

  • Cardio – A happy heart supports a strong solar plexus. Get regular cardiovascular exercise in and you will find your solar plexus chakra stays in balance.
  • Sleep – Doubt, anger, frustration, and depression all tend to creep in when we lack sleep. Log in your 8 hours of sleep each night, 9 if you’re feeling really out of balance.
  • Eat Fiery Foods – Spicy foods help keep your fire going, especially foods like ginger and jalapeño. Consume at least one fiery food a day to keep your third chakra clear.
  • Affirmations of empowerment – the trick to affirmations is to only say things you actually believe. You can start with something like, “I am dedicated to getting stronger.” Then work up from there. “I was really strong today.” Just make sure it’s true to you, or it won’t work.
  • Learn from others – Who do you admire? Who is the strongest person you know? Do not be afraid to take notes and put into practice what others are doing that works. You learn from others now, and someday, others will be learning from you. That’s that human experience.

What crystals are used for solar plexus chakra?
